Bestendigheidstabel van diverse kwaliteiten roestvast staal
In de volgende tabel is de corrosieweerstand tegen gelijkmatige aantasting van de roestvaste staalkwaliteiten ten opzichte van verschillende media aangegeven. De aangegeven waarden zijn gebaseerd op laboratoriumproeven met zuivere chemicaliën. Daar echter in de praktijk chemisch zuivere chemicaliën zelden gebruikt worden en de corrosie ook door andere oorzaken beïnvloed wordt, zijn de in de tabel opgegeven gewichtsverliezen slechts als richtwaarden te beschouwen. De weerstand tegen gelijkmatige aantasting wordt uitgedrukt in gewichtshoeveelheden, materiaalverlies per oppervlak (g/m²) en tijdseenheid in uren (h). In de nu volgende tabel wordt dit als volgt aangegeven:

Een gewichtsverlies van 1 g/m² • h komt overeen met een dikte afname van ca. 1,1 mm/jaar.
Naast gelijkmatige aantasting kunnen roestvaste staalkwaliteiten tevens door lokale corrosievormen zoals putcorrosie, spanningscorrosie en interkristallijne corrosie aangetast worden. Deze vormen van corrosie gaan niet of nauwelijks gepaard met gewichtsverliezen, maar zijn zeker zo ernstig als de gelijkmatige aantasting. Atmosferische corrosie |
De weerstand is hoofdzakelijk afhankelijk van de samenstelling en het vochtigheids-gehalte van de atmosfeer. Om deze reden is de corrosieweerstand in industrie- en kustgebieden beduidend geringer dan in bergstreken of in droge gebieden. De hoogste weerstand wordt verkregen met een gepolijst oppervlak. |
